On May 4, the Chornobyl NPP again started displaying radiation background monitoring data directly at the station. Indicators of ten observation posts have already been integrated into the SaveEcoBot map.
Previously, SaveEcoBot recorded radiation jumps up to 30 times directly at the station on the night of February 24-25, when it was captured by the Russian occupiers. This frightened Ukraine and the world. Afterwards we had no information about what was happening to the background radiation at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. Finally, the monitoring data became publicly available.
Now the data is high, but we don’t need to worry, because this is a typical background for a station that once had an accident. The core issue is that now we can keep tracking situation there.
At the same time, information on the radiation background in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone around the Chornobyl nuclear power plant is still missing. Russain occupation troops destroyed the monitoring system, which had more than 60 observation posts in different places of the zone, and published them on a special website. The equipment has now been stolen by the russian military and the monitoring system destroyed. That is why the state and we as a civil society face a responsible aim to restore such monitoring and make its results public. What we are planning to do.
